The Centre is one of the world’s premier sensor research centres, with special expertise in sensing for medical, environmental and food applications. A key feature of the NCSR is the multidisciplinary composition of the research team, which includes physicists, chemists, biotechnologists and engineers. There are over 130 full-time researchers at the centre, including 20 staff from the Faculty of Science and Health, involved directly with the Centre. NCSR’s prioritised thematic research areas are Photonics, Life Science & Health and Nanotechnology & Microsystems. The NCSR also hosts a major programme in biomedical diagnostics (The Biomedical Diagnostic Institute – www.bdi.ie).
